I had a clunk every time I turned and the suspension articulated, like when I pulled into or out off my slanted driveway. Had it for several years. Started getting progressively worse, happening more frequently with less articulation. Replaced end links, inner and outer tie rods, lower ball joints, no change. I took the Expedition in for an alignment at the local Les Schwab a year or two ago and when the alignment guy handed the car back he mentioned that he heard a clunk as he pulled out of the bay. Thought he left a bolt loose so he pulled back in and checked all the bolts but they were all good. He didn't have time to troubleshoot any further because they were closing. The very next weekend I brought it back in, asked to have the same guy work on my Expedition to investigate that clunk. I was sitting in the waiting room and he comes in and says the clunk was gone. He had me get in the car and he drove around turning aggressively, slamming on the brakes... it was gone. Asked him what the hell it was... he said he was checking the main bolts of the control arm (can't remember if it was upper or lower), and one of the bolts turned about a half a turn before torquing down. I could have kissed the guy!! Best part.... no charge!!
