How do the oil life monitors work on the 3rd gens, particularly 2010s?
I don't think they're just a counter to a particular mileage. Currently on my truck, I've got just about 3800 miles and the oil life says 48% remaining...which would put the interval at 8200 miles. Kind of a weird timer if thats the case.
So is this system "smarter" where it takes usage factors into consideration?
I've been using full synthetic oil in this since I bought it in November 2019, and changed it at 5000 miles. When I've reset the monitor, its still usually had 30% or so left.
Thoughts? And yes, I'm kinda seeing if I can stretch the oil changes based on the truck's computer.
