I just purchased a 2012 Expy XLT and I noticed that there is no under engine protection. This is a 4x4 so it should have some plate or shield. The diagrams at Ford are rather hard to see or make out as far as a shield. I have had no luck in finding info on this year, so I’m turning to this forum to get the dirt. Any pictures would be great so I can order the parts.

No metal plate but I think the police etc issued vehicles had them but you can buy one.

I did find a place on line that sells a two piece plate for 275.00. I believe it is RCI Metal works on Off Road Alliance. My Expy came from Colorado then went to Illinois. I noticed after I bought it that there is no engine protection. First day I had it it blew a trans coolant line. Dealer covered it. Their mechanic said I hit something to cause the break which didn’t happen so now I want some protection for the engine.

Ford makes them and they are cheaper than the RCI ones, but thinner. There are three: Engine, transfer case and a plastic one for the fuel tank.

Thanks. l think I saw that on a earlier response. Tries looking up one of the parts and it said it was discontinued. Going to try to go to a Ford Dealer and see what if they can find it. I would be satisfied with an OEM plate.

That does look good. I might just buy it.

one of the first things I did to it.

Thought this looked like a problem waiting to happen.

Mine has a flimsy felt like sheet that hangs down in front of the engine and plastic push riveted in place which is some help. I took it out with a cats paw and put it back in when I put the sandwich in at the oil filter for the real oil gauge which is working GREAT.

WARNING: RCI Skid Plates are NOT compatible with 2007 Ford Expedition. Everything is off. I do not think they could even be custom mounted. Maybe if you redrilled everything, the plates, front cross member, and the front frame horns...maybe. I don't know if they changed the predrilled hole locations and or the design of both the front frame horns and the front cross member in later years. But for 2007 the front member is wider between the IFS arm mounts than the F-150 and the RCI skid plates are a good inch too narrow. The holes in the RCI skid partially overlap with the predrilled holes on the front cross members so you will need to drill new mounting holes in both the cross member and the skid plates. In addition the front frame horns seem shorter than the F-150. On the F-150 there are two unused predrilled mounting holes back from the two holes used for the tow hooks. On the 2007 Expy there is only a single hole back from the tow hook mounts and they are too far back to use the RCI hanging brackets. You will need to use the second tow hole on the first RCI bracket hole, create a spacer to level the mounting bracket on the frame, and drill a new hole in the frame to properly mount the hanging bracket. Pain in the ass. Please let me know if I'm missing a good workaround here. But until somebody shares that I would purchase the RCI skids with extreme caution.

I ordered mine, but have not put it on the truck. I'm in a middle of moving, so once I get settled in I will see if it fits.
