Hi, all.

The Pirelli (sp?) tires that are original are worn to the wear bar at 31,000 miles. I need new tires. I live in Minnesota so drive in winter snow of course.

Help me with suggestions, please.

What about Michelin Defender LTX/MS or LTX/MS2 or another Michelin suggestion?

are bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza any good.

I'm no tire expert and don't want to buy snow tires but also want a tire that will be a good winter tire while also a good summer tire. Does that exist?

Thanks for the help all!

The Michelin LTX M/S are wildly popular here - so much so that I am considering them as my next set of tires even though I hated them on my Mountaineer. The General Grabber HTS is another well-rated tire worth considering.

In response to your 2nd question: not really. All-Season tires are a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Ideally, you will find one that does fairly well at both, but no matter what you do the tire is not going to excel at both since the qualities that make a great snow tire also make it a poor highway tire and vice versa.

Oh and I have the Pirelli Scorpions on my truck, which I got new as part of the Ford CPO. After 9,000 miles they are looking like I've put 20K+ on them, so I feel your pain. I am sure I will be replacing them by or shortly after next winter.

Michelin M/S2.

See all those sipes? Those are molded in all the way down- unlike some tires that turn into racing slicks at 50% tread.

It's a great tire. No such thing as a perfect tire, but this one is close.

I had the Michelin M/S2 on my 06, on my 2010 came from the dealer with new General Grabber HTS. I cannot hear or feel a difference from inside. I drove the Michelin's through up to 8 inches of fresh wet snow on one of the driveways we West Virginians carve in the side of a hill, then around the hillside with no road. I travelled through southern West Virginia in a snowstorm. I had no complaint except in the heavy slushy stuff. They still go, but they float a bit.

I have only driven the Generals in a couple of snows, and they felt the same. Wear seems about the same so far; I am about 9000 miles in.

As significant a difference as there is in price, I believe this particular General is a fantastic value. I do not feel I have an inferior tire in the General, but I felt like part of a more exclusive club with the Michelins.
