2014 Expedition EL transmission question

In Drive, if I let up on the brake the big thing starts to move forward without me pressing further on the gas.

If I put it in 3 and let up on the brake it just sits there. I can press on the gas pedal and it will move, but it seems slow/sluggish vs. when in Drive.

Normal???? I hope.

Sounds normal to me. Let up on brake and any car that isnt a manual will start to creep. Putting it in 3rd and not moving would be the lack of gearing advantage to move your 3 tons of steel, also why it feels slow.

Oh, so it's trying to start out in 3rd, not starting in 1st and shifting through 2nd to get to 3rd where it can't go any higher?

Darn, never had a Ford automatic before (F150 was a 5 spd. manual) and the Chevys use 1st/2nd/3rd if not in 4th (OD). At least the IROC and the 83 Z28 do (700r4s).
