Short time member and first time post. I’ve had my 2004 Eddie Bauer since new and still love it. Upgrades include billet grill, 2007 20” wheels, and I recently plasti-dipped the rear emblem.

Just having our 3rd kid, in the market for a full size SUV and pretty much narrowed to down EL or Suburban to replace a 2009 Pilot. I've driven the Suburban and it has some cool features and definitely better than previous versions, but the lack of IRS and 3rd row configuration is a big turn off.

I’ve seen the 2015 EL at auto show and was shocked how similar it was next to 2014 – it obviously has a new motor and slight front end up date, but is there anything else significant? The practical side says try to get a smoking deal on a 2014 EL.

How much off MSRP can I expect for a 2014? (I see 12K here in Austin)
Any significant changes for 2015 besides Ecoboost?
Overall experience and satisfaction with current generation?

Hi and welcome!

I have an 07 EL and its been fantastic! I agree that its much better sorted and thought out than the Suburban, especially the 3rd row. I can't for the life of me understand why Suburbans are so expensive (even used!).

From what I've seen, the 15 get the My Ford Touch updates, adjustable or magnetic ride control (I think) and new engine with some cosmetic updates. Check the Ford website for some more info.

As far as my 07 EL, its been great. Hauled us from Maine to FL many times over the past few years and never missed a beat!

my humble take is this... aside from the cash off (which, yes, may be somewhat significant), I would personally wait for the '15. All of the "minor" upgrades u guys speak of, add up to a major nice, new truck. All-new? No, but when you consider... Bigger screen, customizable dash screens, updated Microsoft Sync, xenon headlights (old expy headlights SUCK!!), 365hp EcoBoost motor, nicer leather, push-button start... coming out of 2 older Expy's, man I wish I could do a new one.

It also might be worth waiting for just before the 2016's drop, and try to get a better deal on a leftover 2015. I don't know how desperate you are to get out of the 09 Pilot though.

I agree with this 100%, but when you look at $50k+ sticker (for Limited or Platinum), how bad do you want it? Not enough yet to write that check!

I talk (write) all this but I know my sorry self will be in the dealer's lot checking them out! :bowroflwerd6:

Appreciate all the advice. I'm in a rental 2014 EL Limited right now and really like it. I'll definetly wait to see the 2015

Looking to get out of the Pilot within next 6 months or so, doubtful we can wait for 2016. Is it official 2016 is completely new?

I saw where you had replaced the grill, what are the steps to pull the old grill off my 2004 Expedition?

the front clip and hood needs to be replaced.
my neighbors son did this it was all a bolt on affair. took him time though and wasn't cheap.
and just to throw this out there the 5.0 F150 receives better MPGs than the 3.5l eco boost. just saying.
my navigator got the same MPGs as my neighbors F150 5.0. after I done my big bore set up in my navigator I noticed I get slightly better MPGs with more power than the factory 5.4.
try to find a print on the ford motor craft part site.
