Hi out there - new user here - I have a 2017 Expedition which experienced driver's side rear brake and directional light failure. "no problem" I thought, " I'll just change the bulb." Which I did.
No good - still no brake or directional light.
I replaced the socket.
No good.
Off to the Dealer I go, whereupon I am told the PCM [ or to some the BCM ] controls that light, for braking and directional. Odd.
So I ask them to order one.
No good. They tell me they don't make them anymore. They recommend I send it out to a specialist to have the board checked out.
Which I did.
It came back 'unrepairable' circuit board failure.
So there I am, Ford technicians telling me I am out of luck. There is no way I will pass my state's inspection. Boat anchor. They suggest trying junkyards - for my only 8 year old truck!!! So I did - no luck.
But then, luckily, one of my friends wonders aloud if he can wire the light to my trailer hitch, which DOES seem to get a brake and directional light.
"Be my guest", I reply, " because if I don't do something, I will be learning the bus and train schedules to everywhere!"
So he did it.
Good.
It worked. Huzzah!

This long winded story is my introductory message asking fellow Forum members - does anyone else have this problem or is there some way I can get my hands on a PCM/BCM for my 2017 Expedition? I am told to write the NTSB which I'll do but I thought I'd try here first. Thank you!

So, I had a problem in my 2016 EL where the tail lights would blow the bulbs; on both sides. Replaced them twice, and got the same thing within minutes of replacing.

Took it to the dealer. They said they fixed it. Great!!! Ran good for about a week. Then, no tail lights. Checked the fuse to find that those idiots just replaced the fuse with a higher amperage one. WTF?!?!

All I could do was be mad at the fact they could’ve caught my vehicle on fire. I didn’t pay for that “fix”… only the original reason why it was there. Can’t remember for the life of me what that was.

Now I’m wondering if it was a PCM issues as well. Hmmm… Well, it’s someone else’s issue now.

Hope you get that figured out. Should you need any detailed wiring diagrams to troubleshoot that issue let me know. I’ve got access to just about all things on the road passenger vehicle wise.

@BlackBetty - thank you SO MUCH for the offer! For now, the wiring workaround to the trailer hitch is working like a charm, and I am still searching, hoping and actually praying that they either make the part, or I can find one somewhere lying in obscurity.
Thanks again!

Get the part number off of your original BCM. Find a used one on Ebay or from a scrap yard with the same part number. I'm a mobile mechanic and program used Ford modules all the time. Most decent shops should have a scan tool capable enough to run the PMI (programmable module installation) procedure on your replacement BCM. You will probably need 2 keys to perform the anti-theft (PATS) parameter reset function once the replacement BCM is installed and programmed, the vehicle will not start if this step is skipped.

Hello!
I am a new user as well and found this while searching on the same issue. I have a 2016 Expedition EL Limited 4x4. My right rear turn and brake light started intermittently not working and eventually quick working all together. I used Forscan and found that I have U3000 and B132C bcm codes stored. I have check all of the wiring and have found no faults, and have not found any blown fuses. For the first time in my life I gave up and took it to a shop only to be told after 2 hours diagnostic time that the BCM is in fact bad, and the part is discontinued!!! The left side also stopped working, but while it was in the shop, the said the bulb was just blown and replaced it. 20 minutes of driving and the bulb is out again on the left side. I am at a loss as to how they could have discontinued this BCM, and it seems like I am reading about several issues related to them on these vehicles. I get the ghost proximity sensor on my front left all the time, and my fog lights intermittently work. I like your idea about tapping into the trailer wiring, but when doing this, does the fast pulsing continue, or does the flasher go at a normal speed?

Wow…you guys aren’t joking. After some googling I can usually expect to find something, but in this case, it seems like a boutique item to say the least.

Managed to find the link below…found a few on this site that claim to have BCMs….although it’s just all pictures of the sad wreckage and not the BCM itself. I assume once you order it they will pull it from the donor and ship it to you. Deeser is on the money….keep in mind the BCM controls PATS and you’ll need both keys to reprogram the donor BCM…and a shop with the right tool has to do this.
