Just curious, why would it matter if doors are locked, if one is open?

Ok, I’ll do my best to explain the scenario. It’s a limited, So I leave the FOB in the center counsel. When we park somewhere, doors open I get out want to lock the car and go to the passenger side as the kids pile out (some are younger) and help them. I’m not able to lock the car until they are all out and the door is shut. I could make them all pile out driver side passenger door but this would be a real pain. I didn’t have this problem with my 07 expedition. Thanks for the help.

I now see what your trying to do, isn't there a delay lock feature? I'd have to check, I know my Malibu and Suburban has delay locks.

The "no key needed FOB" seems to be the problem. I don't think there was one in 2007. Page 53 of my owner's manual -- and yours. :)

Smart Unlocks for Intelligent
Access Keys (If Equipped)

This helps to prevent you from locking your
key inside the passenger compartment or
rear cargo area.

When you electronically lock your vehicle
with any door open, the transmission is in
park (P) and the ignition is off, the system
searches for an intelligent access key
inside your vehicle after you close the last
door. If the system finds a key, all of the
doors will immediately unlock and the horn
will sound twice, indicating that a key is
inside.

You can override the smart unlock feature
and intentionally lock the intelligent access
key inside your vehicle.

To do this, lock your vehicle after you have
closed all the doors by:
Using the keyless entry keypad. {the 7/8 and 9/0 keys simultaneously}
• Pressing the lock button on another
intelligent access key.

When you open one of the front doors and
lock your vehicle using the power door lock
control,
all doors will lock then unlock if:
• The ignition is on.
• The ignition is off and the transmission
is not in park (P).

• Pressing the lock button on another
intelligent access key.

When you open one of the front doors and
lock your vehicle using the power door lock
control,
all doors will lock then unlock if:
• The ignition is on.
• The ignition is off and the transmission
is not in park (P).
I know the last one is what I use but I don't have the fancy "no key needed" sysem.

I LOVE this feature....many moons ago in a different life, I took my wife to South Baltimore boat launch to meet friends via the water. Upon returning several hours later, I started the car & turned the AC to freezing and we were loading stuff into the trunk, she tossed in her purse(with her keys) and began to close it...just far enough for the motorized closer to pull in in tight. We waited for 3.25 hrs into the night, in South Baltimore with a running new Cadillac for a locksmith to arrive so I could get into my VERY cold car!

LOL

Yeah, I like this feature....

Still puzzled here. I can lock my '17 with ANY or ALL doors and HATCHES open by any of these means if the key is not in the ignition. I just walked out and confirmed all of these.

1. Press Lock on the key. This is pretty easy and I'm not sure why yours does not do this.
2. 78 and 90 pads on the outside keypad
3. Power lock on either front door.

I don't recall "activating" or "deactivating" anything. And yes, I could toss the keys inside before closing the doors. No problem since I can unlock the car with the keypad on the drivers door.

Are we talking about the same thing here?
