My buddy has a 99 eb 4x4 and his 5.4 just died.
The jy wants way too much for a 5.4
Obviously a 4.6 will bolt right in but are the truck 4.6's cammed differently or will any pi 4.6 work?
Also will the 5.4 ecm run the 4.6 or will I need to reflash or get a 4.6 ecm?

Thanks for the help guys!

If he is used to the power and torque of the 5.4, he probably isn't going to be happy with a 4.6.

I would expand your search for a 5.4l

Just speculating but I believe the 5.4's come with the heavier duty trannys (4R100) and 9.75 rear.

The differences in trannys may require different wiring harness so a simple pcm swap may not work.

My guess is it would need custom program to perform well unless you swap the complete drivetrain. Of course if you plan to have custom program it is not an issue.

But there may be other potential differences as well!?

Seems to me a 5.4 swap would simplify things greatly.

If you're going to rebuild a motor for a forced induction setup, why not just rebuild the stock 5.4 motor (or look for a lightning motor that has all the necessary parts)?

He dosent want to rebuild one. A 4.6 can handle 400 hp crank all day.
Looking to avoid the expense of a 5.4 and just need to know what all it would entail for a 5.4 to 4.6 swap.

dairyair - Tru-Dat !!!!! LOL

I was in the shop with my head mechanic and shop supervisor......a guy pulled up in a 2000-ish camaro and asked how he could get more HP out of his V6 and the mechanic and shop supervisor-----in sync----said, "a V8".
