Looking to get rid of my Explorer and upgrade to an Expedition. My question is, is there large difference between the 4.6L vs 5.4L (PI heads) when it comes to everyday driving?

From Wikipedia:

MY1997–1998 4.6 Liter (281 cu in) SOHC 16-valve Triton V8 gasoline 215 hp (160 kW) 290 lb·ft (393 N·m)
MY1997–1998 5.4 Liter (330 cu in) SOHC 16-valve Triton V8 gasoline 230 hp (172 kW) 325 lb·ft (441 N·m)
MY1999–2002 4.6 Liter (281 cu in) SOHC 16-valve Triton V8 gasoline 232 hp (173 kW) 291 lb·ft (395 N·m)
MY1999–2002 5.4 Liter (330 cu in) SOHC 16-valve Triton V8 gasoline 260 hp (194 kW) 345 lb·ft (468 N·m)

While there is "only" 28 hp difference the difference in torque is more substantial at 54 ft pds. The torque comes in at much lower rpms with the 5.4 also. Torque is what moves these monsters in stop and go driving. While the 4.6 is probably adequate I would prefer the 5.4 anyday in such a heavy vehicle.

Test drive both and decide for yourself!?

I noticed a big difference going from my 5.4L expedition to my friends 4.6L f150. Keep in mind though we are both running larger tires without regearing

My brother has a 2011 2.5S and that little engine is pretty stout. With that being said the HP difference between the 2.5 and 3.5 is 100HP.

My wife has an 11 altima 2.5 and I hate it. It has no pickup.

The CVT doesn't really allow for a lot of power off the line, otherwise it'd blow up. That engine would perform a lot better paired to a real 5 or 6 speed automatic.
