I solved my lack of running light on the trailer problem. Turns out fuse # 28 trailer park relay was empty. Those PITA fuse are not just mini fuses but low profile mini fuses. Neither OReillys or Autozone had a 25 amp low profile mini. I bought the 20 amp and everything lit up on the trailer!! Hooray now I have nighttime lights !

Still no 12 V power but I'll get there. The thought of pulling apart the wiring harness with its 24 wires to try and insert a pin to reach the orange wire is a little scary.

May seem scary, but really isn't. Put the pin on a wire and insert it into the harness. Im not a well trained guy. Pretty much everything i learn is from forums and youtube and i did it no problem

I finally ran a wire from the 7 pin to the orange wire. So much easier to run a wire on the Expedition than on my Honda Odyssey.
@bsevans5 i was just too chicken to pull apart the wire harness so I used a Posi-tap. Now I have 12 V going to my trailer. Hooray

I was not able to find the correct pin to put in the connector. So what I ended up doing was cutting the orange wire, and using a barrel connector to extend the wire to the rear of the car.

What are recommendations for tapping in to reverse wire to run to the 7 pin?

I used a positap connector on the reverse wire. It is below and to the outside of the orange wire. Its a GY-BN 18 gauge wire in connector 139 position 22 which is the lowest most inboard position.

If you tap into the orange wire like the photos, what size fuse it it connected to through the harness?

In my 2016 owners manual under fuse specification chart I believe it is the #48 40 amp fuse. If it doesn't have a fuse then you'll need to get one and just remember to get the low profile fuses. Remarkably easy to run a line back to the trailer hitch.

I am still confused about the best way to connect the 12v wire in the 7-pin harness to a 12v power source. I have seen some going to the battery, and I have seen some going to an orange wire. What is my best option? And, what are all the supplies I need?

They are all 12v, there is a diagram on google to wire the plug.

I tapped the orange wire. It’s what the factor HD tow plug would have used if it didn’t terminate there in the non-he tow vehicles.

This is the wiring diagram for my 2014 with the HD tow package, it looks like the orange wire, runs all the way from the fuse box

On my 2017 I tapped the very thick orange wire above the driver’s side wheel shroud in the engine compartment. From the threads I’ve read here, if you do not have HD tow (no 7-prong plug standard), I thought it terminated there. If that is indeed the same very thick orange wire highlighted in the picture there, it should work. I’ll grab a picture in the morning.
