Hi all,
New guy here..
The problem: Clutch (guessing) is going bad. Strong burnt clutch smell after driving for 15-20 minutes. Front of A compressor too hot to touch.

Yes- I did a search.

No, I don't want to replace the compressor if possible.

Vehicle is in Alaska and AC is never needed. Napa store can get parts, but they take forever, and re-charging might not be available.

Would like to take the simple solution first if available which would be just bypassing it with a shorter belt (if possible). This eliminates me releasing the refrigerant, and gets me going again.

I can probably take a compressor north with me, but don't know if installing it w/o refrigerant will keep it properly lubed? I know nothing about AC.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks in advance!
