MY '98 XLT Has eaten another 5.4L! First engine lost the whole drivers side valvetrain about 4yrs ago and I replaced it with a low mileage(~120K) replacement. Now it suddenly lost compression on #2 cylinder. I'm saving up to replace it again and this time I'm just going with a reman unit hopefully. Anybody got suggestions/opinions on the best choice? Local stealership says Motorcraft no longer has any options so I'm looking at just going to Autozone and getting one. Not looking for extra performance just longevity and durability.

ODO hasn't worked since I've owned it but I may try to repair that before I have the engine replaced just to make it easier to validate the warranty.

Any comments, suggestions, or snide remarks? I've owned this thing for over 10yrs, it's ranged with me from Key West to Wyoming, tackled the San Juans of Colorado and been a comfy, overall dependable ride so I can't let her go out like this!

A couple of years ago I got a remanufactured engine for my wife's 2005 F-150 5.4 from Powertrain Products. I went with them because the company was highly recommended by several sources whose opinion I respect. So far, it has been completely trouble-free. If my 1999 Exp 5.4 ever needs a new engine, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.
