I tried checking the fluid level in my 08 expy's trans. Dipstick was so friable is broke when dropped a foot to concrete. I'll be ordering a new stick & cap shortly.
For those that may want to try making a engine bay dipstick, here's a few numbers.
From bottom of flange to lower edge of hash mark, 1.5". From flange to upper edge is 1.125".
Once I have a replacement, I'll be doing a dump and fill with the current recommended fluid, Mercon LV.
If I'm feeling frisky, I may mod the old cap into a base for a dipstick, or add 2 copper lines, one for filling and one set at the proper fluid level. I have several Facet 5psi fuel pumps that can be used to scavenge fluid when filling, allowing me to just pump it in blindly. I have 40+ quarts of LV compatible fluid from another project, so I'm not concerned about wasting it.
