I have had my '97 EB into the dealer (Tomball Ford) 5 times with the air suspension problem. I have spent over $1000.00. All they have done is make it worse. Now after driving 45-50 miles the light will come on and the truck is squated so low in the back that it affects the steering. If I pull over shut off the truck then restart it the pump will come back on. Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with this thing?

What did they do for $1,000?.....did they replace the compressor?

You may want to look at the air line union under or right in front of the master cylinder. (This "union" is black, a hair over an inch long and connects 2 lines together) These unions are notorious for splitting down the side. Early on, it may just leak, but when it cracks enough to allow the collet to pop out, it WILL NOT build any air pressure......and your dead in the water.

What the Dealer(?) did

They replaced the driver's side air bag two of the unions and a valve of some kind. What they where doing was swapping parts trying to figure out what was wrong because they had no idea. When it got to $1000.00 I said to stop. I have reset the switch and it seems to be doing better. I am still worried about it because it is my wife's grocery getter and she almost always has a kid or two with her. It makes it really squrrily to drive.

Without any codes to know where to start, we're just guessing here. If they did do the unions, I would look towards the compressor and/or relay. Who knows, you may get lucky and it be a corroded compressor relay. Look up under the RF fender for the relay and disconnect the connector. Look for corrosion there.

If worse comes to worse, you could always do a coil spring conversion on it and be done with it.
