I am guessing I have a tensioner or guide that has failed cause I am getting noise from the passenger side timing cover area. I have a few question that I hope you can help me with. First off is it ok to just replace the tensioners and guides and not the chain and sprockets? (don't have the tools to hold the cams in place so was thinking maybe not replacing them) Second what is a good timing kit o buy to do this job? (I have seen some a couple hundred and then others around 60 bucks) Third, any advice, tips or tricks you may want to pass on to make the job a little easier?

Thank you in advance for any help

Sprockets will be fine , if I'm doing the job it's getting new chains, tensioners, guides, and a new oil pump.
any recommendation as to what brand to buy? I don't want to have to do this again for a very long time. also any tips or tricks if you have done this before?

Always buy the best product available. The budget priced items are just that! Original Ford is best choice, but Melling used to work for me. Just stay away from the bargain stuff, made in china, or somewhere where cost is more important than quality. As far as not swapping out sprockets and chains, along with dropping pan to clean out debris that accumulated on oil pump screen. Are you a lucky man? Do you mind doing a job twice? We all here believe do it once, and do it right. That's what I was taught, and what I taught others. You may be able to borrow any tools through Oreillys or Auto Zone, look Into it. Post your results. Last thing buy a DVD repair CD online, you'll need it!
