99 Expedition

My 99 Expedition has all-time four wheel drive. Whenever the back wheel starts to spin, and the front wheels start to grab, you can hear a loud popping toward the front-end. Especially when I accelerate on wet or slick surfaces. It feels like the 4 wheel drive is not kicking in all the way. It sounds like it could be expensive! Please help!

unfortunately...thats normal, the AWD system isnt the greatest. I pulled the fuse under the hood that keeps it in AWD...no more clunk, course the 4wd doesnt work, but if i need it, just plug it back in and use the switch to put it in fulltime

It won't hurt it to drive it without the fuse for a extended period of time?
