I could not find adaptive cruise thread this year so here goes. Is it possible to turn the adaptive function off ? Just maintain the speed and tap the breaks if needed? I have used ACC on other vehicles and I generally don't like it but I do like standard cruise control. I would think it might improve mpg issues reported in other threads.

Thanks, there is nothing worse than getting stuck behind a self-righteous law abiding citizen, proving a point by plodding along in the left lane because your ACC brakes when you want to pass on the right but are overtaken on the right by the 100 other enraged drivers who just want to go home too. The USA has 14 deaths by auto accident per 100,000 Germany has 4 and they have unlimited speed autobahn. Oh we are not the worst the world average it 18.

I enjoy moving over in front of newer vehicles just to watch the dumb adaptive cruise shut them down from 80 to 65! lol.

Honestly, I love the ACC on my Expy. It might be my most favorite feature (tied with the air-conditioned front seats). It's not infallible (I found out is pretty hinky on 2-lane, curvy roads ...car in front of you gets out of sensor sight and the ACC accelerates ...in the entry of an apex). But for fairly straight-line 2-lane highway or 4-lane interstate driving, I'm loving never really having to step on the brakes and reactivate the CC. Not particularly concerned with gas mileage (and I did get 24.2 mpg from Flagstaff to Mesa, AZ ALL using the ACC).

The one thing I do notice is that I can leave the ACC primarily enabled, but I have the option of essentially defeating it with the "distance button." I have a button on my steering wheel with a tight arrow on the bottom side of the detent and a wide arrow on the top of the detent. It allows me to pick 3 different distances ...for the ACC to kick-in at. I have actually played with that and while I mostly prefer the widest spread, I have adjusted it on interstates that weren't as busy as others. Pretty sure I (accidentally) turned it down to "nothing" ...and the collision avoidance system helped me avoid disaster.

I say all this that has been a HUGE skeptic of these high-tech systems. I'm a bit of an "old curmudgeon" that probably isn't technically old enough to ascribe that self-titling. But alas, even after only 10 days and ~1400 miles, I'm sold on these features so much that I'm much more confident in the predictors' songs & dances about self-driving vehicles. These features have come a long way.

(Note: I should disclose that I'm a bit of a tech junkie and have worked in IT for nearly 31 years now.)

ACC is awesome. I got my first vehicle with ACC in 2008 and would not buy a vehicle without it. I now own 4 vehicles with ACC, 2 of which have forward collision braking. I will not buy a vehicle without ACC and automatic collision braking.

ACC has grown on me now that learned how to use it better. I set it about 5 mph above traffic flow and am quick on the accelerator to close the gap if some clown is trying to sneak in between me and the follow car. Also don’t be afraid to use the cancel button for quick unanticipated maneuvers then simply hit resume when needed. Best used for highway cruising or stop and go nastiness imo. Also good when you need to divide your attention between the road and other things going on in the vehicle.

My interstates aren't too crowded, and I like the ACC as well. It's easy to keep it engaged and use the accelerator to pass if needed and then let off and it resumes. I've experimented in really snow crawling traffic and it will crawl along very nicely at a set distance and will stop if needed. Can make traffic jams more relaxing.

My ‘21 XLT FX4 has automatic collision braking but it doesn’t seem to have adaptive cruise control. I figured these two systems would utilize the same hardware? Probably no way for a dealer to add this feature?

ACC is awesome. IF you want to override to pass, just press to go pedal.

I think it works really well.

I even think it works as well as ACC on our tesla.

On the hardware question, you could compare the related parts using two VIN’s on parts.Ford.com. Another good resource is to check out the f150 forums. I believe there are people who have added ACC to f150’s that had regular cruise. You would probably have to look at ‘20 or earlier f150’s.

The 2 features should go together. One possibility is that vehicles without ACC have a basic forward collision braking, not the complete system.

Had the same question- I didn’t know (wasn’t told) the difference between CoPilot and CoPilot+. I really wanted the adaptive cruise, and seemed reasonable that it would use same sensors as collision braking
