Adding a sub

My Expy did not come with factory sub or amp. I am wondering if the Expy's that did not come with the Mach sound systems would still have the same room or enclosures built in that a sub could be added? I didn't want to tear apart the back of my trunk to find out before I checked with you guys. With 3 kids I do not want to lose any cargo space adding an amp and sub so I am hoping that I can still put it where the stock on would be. I am just not happy with the sound of my stock 6 speaker system. There is definitly a lack of sound in the 3rd row so hoping to add some tweeters in the rear somewhere. Any suggestions on any of this stuff would be greatly appreciated..

I believe the space is just empty if you dont have the factory sub. Easiest thing to do is pop off the rear tray piece by the cup holders in the 3rd row on the drivers side and look down. I've seen a few Expedition factory subs w/ enclosure and amp for sale on ebay, but the problem you're gonna run into is whether or not the wiring harness is back there and the fact that the head unit wont have a provision for the sub output. So at a minimum you're gonna need a new "Audiophile" head unit and sub enclosure with amp. Also, if you have SYNC you've got to find a head unit that works with that.

Audiophile head unit will have three plugs in back, non Audiophile head units only have two. (see pics)
