After Market Tuners

Just wanting to know what experiences any of you might have with these items. Are they really worth it ?? Hypertech says 36 more HP on my 2011. For any who have done it, can you really feel a difference ?? And what about gas mileage ??

For me it's a lot of money if I really can't tell much difference.

to me...its worth it...although you may spend the $400 upfront...throughout the year you will save more is youre wanting gas mileage...i have superchips and love it...my mpg's increased from 17 to about 23-24 mpg's depending on how i drive...HOWEVER...i have a "canned" tune...meaning preset...if you go with SCT...you can get a custom tune built to your specific desires...for the same price...and should have other input options...the advertised readings for programmers are under absolute conditions...91 or 93 octane...and other modifications...you will feel a difference in shift and take off pending your settings...i know i saved money withing the 1st 2 months of having mine

I would only go with the canned tune.

Depends on the tune you get. It can be tuned for 87 or 91.

No complaints here from my HyperTech. Tranny improvement alone is worth it. Slightly better mileage, not drastic...better overall drive ability. The ole butt dyno is able to tell a difference!

Worth it all the way, not too expensive at autoanything.com. Better pick up off the line and on the highway for passing and much better on transmission shifting. Gas mileage maybe a hair better but no loss.

Wow!! 23 or 24 mpg???? Ford needs to change their engine management team STAT! Fords stock price could double if they manage to get the superchips team in there, and FIRE all those overpaid engineers!

Thank you guys so much, especially the ones with the later models like mine. Did all of you go with the premium tune ?? I would have to get considerable better mileage to offset the cost of the premium.

I have 7 tunes loaded...87-91 and towing performance...I've only used the 87 performance...maybe when gas prices drop I'll try the others...

I'm only running the 87 tune on mine and can squeeze 20 mpg on the highway, but I have other mods as well. What I gained in mpg, I'm losing with the added wind resistance if my lift. Still happy though, and don't really see a need at this time to run the 91 tune, but have the option.

It looks like I am going to put the Hyper tech in the budget.

Brand New I was getting over 22 MPG on the highway with the truck empty. Very happy with that. Towing a 4500 lb boat 1800 miles I got 14.5 MPG and I was very, very happy with that.

These 6 speed trans sure do feel different than the old 4 speed in my 2000. I will probably not change shift point due to affecting mileage but will change firmness.

With having the aftermarket intake and exhaust I am hopeful can gain a couple miles per gallon.

i have a superchips and it gives me a noticeable improvement, not in mileage though, i get crap mileage on all my vehicles, must be the leadfoot and my ethanol filled gas.

fyi custom tunes, unless its on a dyno, will still be a form of a canned tune one way or another. they take your current programing strategy code you provide, and just pull up a canned tune for it, and maybe tweak it just a bit depending on how the tuner normally likes to do it.

dyno tune, or everything else is canned, i am happy with my superchips tune btw.

Did any of you have to wait for a tune to be made when you bought your tuners? The reason I ask is I bought a Superchips Flashpaq last week and found out they didn't have a tune for my truck. I was told they had all my info and would start working on it and that it would take 2-3 business days. I called back Monday because I found info on their site for the 2008's. For whatever reason mine is different. According to the guy they still hadn't started working on it. After some other issues I hung up and sent the tuner back. So now I'm looking around at other tuners. But if I'm going to have the same issue with tunes I'll spend the extra money and go with 5 Star.

I updated mine before trying to tune the truck. What got me was them making some sort of change to the updater and then blaming me for the issue. And the guy talking to me like I'm dumb didn't help things. I was already frustrated at that point so that didn't help.
