Aftermarket brake controler messing with transmission

My used 2019 came with a cheap aftermarket brake controller bolted to the dash. Could that be the reason my transmission is acting up, or just a sign that the previous owner beat this thing up on the boat launch or some suchlike towing mishap?

Unplug the brake controller and see if your transmission issues continue.

I’m betting there is a problem with the transmission.
