I might be behind on this, im sure you all have done this and talked about this.
Have you all seen any gains from removing the silencers on 3.5 eco boost engine? 15-17 expeditions.

What do you mean by “air silencer”?

In the 11-14 EB F150s, which is very similar to ours mechanically, even an aftermarket intake is basically worthless as far as power goes. At least until you get a tune and crank the boost up to higher levels.
K&N says they gain 6.94 HP with their intake, but it’s really a meaningless number. Stage 3 Motorsports does a lot of testing, and they don’t even bother posting CAI gains on the EB motors, because any increase from just an intake is well within the dyno margin of error anyway.

There are two silencers on each intake tube going to each turbo. There’s a lot of videos claiming some HP and more engine noise. I know engines and I know I won’t get noticeable gains from that so I was just wondering what were people experiences with that.

I took the two of them out on my 16 Platinum EL 4 months ago. Probably a placebo effect but there might be a little more turbo noise. Plan on a K&N intake here soon then an exhaust and tune later next year

I’m taking the bold chance of wasting $450, ordering the aFe Stage 2 with the lid for a 14 F150, and praying that I’m right about the intake plumbing on these trucks being the same other than the airbox and the connector tube.

I already sent a product request to them and they said the systems are different and will not fit our expeditions

They all say it won’t fit, I just can’t figure out WHY it wouldn’t. All my comparisons between the 11-14 F150 and 15-17 Expedition show only very minor differences. The tubes even use the same brackets to mount. 3E4830D4-6333-4DFC-B48B-BAF81D6D1DF7.jpeg 7A83D38C-851C-4C6E-B2EC-0837E696B59B.jpeg
Top/bottom, parts 15/8, 16/9, 12/6, 1/11, are all the same regardless of which vehicle they are in. It’s true the airbox lids are different, as is 11/5, the driver’s side tube, but all the differences appear to be in the part that the intake doesn’t replace.
Guess I won’t know if I don’t try.

If you get it and it works, let me know bc that was going to be my first choice if it did fit

Do you recommend it? I have 16 also.
I went ahead and ordered one for my 16. K&N is a solid brand and it’s one of a few company’s that offer an intake for our vehicles. Air raid just looks cheap, aFe doesn’t fit our trucks due to the stage two piping, all other brands that make one for f150 say theirs won’t fit an expedition, that leaves k&n for the win

I have the kit. Did a test fit a few months ago. Tubing is fine, sensor mount/adapter isn’t right. Plan on fabbing something, but needs to be warmer....

Is he talking about the “gotts” mod everyone mentions on the F-150 forums?

No, DC the two screw clamps on the intake bellows and pull the sections apart. Look down the tube and you will see two circular fan looking inserts Pull them out and put everything back together. Supposedly they are there to cut down on turbo whine042C3DB0-4130-41BE-8054-40445864742D.jpeg

That’s it JSki. Some people say they are there to help swirl the air before it hits the turbos and others say it’s to cut down the turbo noise.

Oh ok. Cool. So the “gotts” mod doesn’t apply to us?

They are NOT there to "swirl" the air.....like the well known Turbonator of the 80's & 90's (a failed product too).

Typically, Superchargers will have "noise suppressors" as on my Compressor SLK....I removed it because I enjoy the sound....not as common are the suppressors for turbos..oft placed in or near the intercooler for obvious reasons but since they don't make as much dynamic noise.....it looks like the manufacturers are just trying to cover all sources of noise.

Jeff, In your opinion, any gain other than sound from removing them?

If you plan on tuning I think you'll get a better performance boost from it for sure. By itself you wont get anything you'll feel. Get more air in and more out is good the way I look at it. The financial advisors on here will tell you its a waste of money but its your money so spend it how you want. That's what I do
