So i never owned an all wheel drive vehicle, and i'm wondering..Is it 4wheel drive all the time or does it just kick in to four wheel mode when a wheel spins?

its in 2wd then when wheel slip in the rear happens the front engages. i thought it sent power front to rear rear to front. but some one here corrected me and hes right. so as long as you dont floor it in all wheel drive you wont have any problems. i do sometimes and my transfercase grinds.

haha well mine is the xlt model so its not always in a4wd. if i floor it from a stop it dosent grind. if im on a wet hill it dose. the a4wd was designed by ford for wet pavement driving.

well dont drive in 4x4 on the street. unless theres snow. a4wd has 2wd engaged and when it detects the wheel slip the front engage to help with traction. then once traction is all set the front disengages and its 2wd again.
