Anyone replace their alternator? The "check charging system" just popped up on my dash . I had the battery tested and needed a new one, so I have done that, but the light comes back on after the car has been running for aboput 5 min. The lillte battery light also comes one at the same time. I figure it has got to be the alternator. I have checked cables and made sure the connection is good. How hard is it to replace the alternator. How hard is it to release the pressure from the belt tnesioner?

I did mine. It literally takes minutes to do. You just need a breaker bar or long rachet to release the tension on the belt. Just take your time and you will be fine.

Butch, where are you located in GA.? I'm west of Atlanta in Temple. There can be other causes to your problem but one of the first checks is the alternator output. Have yours tested and verify the readings if you go to one of the national parts stores. Output voltages should run between 14.0 and 14.5.

Took the alternator out(it is very easy to do) and had it checked, It is good. So now the battery is good and the alternator is good whats next? Expedition cranks up good and runs for about 3 min then the check charging system light comes on as does the little battery on the instrument panel.

Might be the wrong alternator. I bought a high output aftermarket one and when I put it on the battery light came on. The guy told me they make two different regulators for the alternator in our trucks and I got the wrong one which caused my battery light to come on. Swapped the alternator for the one with the right part and im good now. I would look into that

I'm glad you're problem is solved, but did you check to see if it was the voltage regulator or the brushes?
