quick qeustiuon to you guys. I have a chronic alternator probelm it has been going out every two to three months. assuming it is the 130 amprage what else could be the problem? I do have a stereo hooked up. and that is pretty much it. From my research it does use alot of power any thoughts or comments. I think this qeustion is placed in the right catagory lol its debatable.

If your stereo draws a lot then ya. It'd be evedent when the stereo is loud it makes the lights dim to the beat sometimes. Buy a high output alternator.

If you had a ground that wasn't fused I bet it'd do damage but that would drain your battery first and you'd fix it soon. Find yourself a high output alt. An average alternator will do 85 amps or so. Or maybe the semi high output does that?

as far as i know of, the older expos have a 130 amp output. the higher ones are 215 i think?

and a stereo shouldnt be the problem. if you have a sound system, that could be the problem. i have 2 amps + my stereo hooked up to the factory stuff and it does fine. never any dimming.

I second that. Your stereo should'nt draw that much unless your running 1000 watts or more of amps. Something is causing your alt to burn out, and I'm willing to bet its not the stereo. Check the wiring from your alt, a frayed wire will do bad things. Your best bet would be to take it somewhere and run a diagnostic to see whats happening. Electrical shit is a pain in the ass to trouble shoot.
