Black Friday Sale

Sticker = $78,440
Sales before taxes = $65,888

16% off sticker AND 0% financing for 72 months.

If I did not qualify for the 0%, I would have had an additional $2000 off, or $63,888 (18.6%)

I shopped dealerships online and over the phone before stepping on the lot. I had mine pre-negotiated and was in and out in less than 3 hours.

Awesome thanks. I got the stealth and platinum white without the convenience package for 66k out the door. I wasnt sure I got a deal, but I think you verified it. Thanks!

Depending on the timing, when I was shopping a 2018 limited with 302A, heavy duty trailer backup assist and RSE, I saw at least 5 of them were asking around $56K with 72 months 0% with under 10 miles on from April to June. The MSRP was about $78K. I ended up buying one with 15K miles on for $51K OTD. It took me about 3 months to find one with the specs I wanted and within my budget. But I wasn't in a hurry at all. I expect it will be the same for the 2019 model year by mid 2020.

So you bought a used one and paid only a little less than a new one? The used one would be 1/2-2/3 out of warranty when the new one would start with a fresh warranty.

This is the first I've read anywhere of new 18 302a's going anywhere near that low of price. Can you share us some leads on these so we can go buy them?

Mileage wasn't a concern to me at all since I drive under 7K miles per year. After owning it for a year it will be around 22K miles and be the same, or even less than, the majority out there. I also bought Ford Premium CARE with $50 deductible and covering 8 years 100K miles for $1800. I used cars.com, Edmund's, and autotrader and set up my search parameters including Limited, under $54000, 302A, backup assist and 300 miles from me..etc. these sites sent me notifications whenever there were matches. I then called those dealers to negotiate the deal. There were plenty of choices starting April. There was even a Platinum with RSE listed for $56K with 7K miles on. Unfortunately it was about 2000 miles from me.

It all matters when and where you buy. I know Ford was advertising 20% off the 2019. I dug further and it was only on the 2019 XLT and only on a unit that had been on the dealers lot for longer than 60 days I wanted a nicer trim, so I went with the limited stealth. There are people who will distort the truth on two major things, on their vehicles. Price paid and fuel mileage. Usually, they only offer the big rebates on units they aren't moving or units nobody wants which is the same thing. I bought from my college roommate, who owns the dealership. List price=$75815 sales price less rebates and incentives=$68000. This reflects buying at invoice price less rebates. Sure he made the 3% holdback but I think that's more than fair. What else can you buy for a markup of 3%? They are going to make $ on you, they have to, to stay in business. I'd decide if it's a good deal for you, in your area, and go from there.

I'm very close (as in later today) to pulling the trigger on a '19 Limited 4WD. Out the door price including all fees but excluding tax is $65K even vs $73.6K MSRP and $70.7K invoice (basically $5.7K below invoice, which includes about $4.7K of advertised Ford incentives/rebates).

By my math, I'm guessing the dealer is getting about $2.2K in holdback from Ford (3% of MSRP), of which I'm getting about $1K, leaving the dealer with about $1.2K in profit. While normally I would negotiate for more, I've read that the vast majority of dealers are extremely reluctant to give up holdback $s and this is the only remaining Expedition in my area in the color/option combo I want.

FWIW, i drive about 18-20K miles per year, and plan on having this car for 8+ years (the new Expy is replacing my '12 Limited 4WD with 150K miles).

I welcome any feedback before I head to the dealer!

Every dealer, regardless of size or volume, pays the same for every car or truck. It doesn't matter if you're located across the street from the plant, you still pay the same cost for vehicle and destination charge. A lot of dealers add items like paint sealant, interior protector etc and add it to the sticker price. If you want a truck, that isn't moving well, it's easy to get a lot off sticker. otherwise, the only difference is for trade in allowance and how much over they charge you.

Most dealers won't give you all the cash discounts that Ford offers, they want part of it for their pockets!

Yeah but the effective cost per vehicle goes down at a high volume dealer because they will get more in the way of holdbacks and bonuses from the manufacturer. Whether they pass those additional savings on to you depends on how good you are at negotiating and how badly they need your vehicle sold to hit a step bonus etc.

I've found the bigger the dealer, the higher the price of the vehicle. I hate these maga dealers.....

Didn’t you get your best price at a mega dealer and then have your small town dealer match it?

I don't honestly know what dealer I got the price from. It was a Ford Dealer on Autotrader and I had absolutely no intention of buying it from them, so I never paid any attention to which Ford dealer it was. It was out of state, that's about all I remember.
I just needed an offer to make my local dealer work in my favor! :). I didn't care what dealer it was!

It's still the same cost. Holdback is a % of sticker. No, they don't get volume discounts. Big dealers usually have higher overhead including a huge budget for advertising and big extravagant buildings. They are likely in an area where real estate is a premium. It's how dealers always boast "$10,000 low price guarantee". They know another dealer can't beat their price or they'll be loosing money. I worked in a smaller dealership and a mega dealership for 20 yrs. total. Ford tried moving to the large dealerships and fazing out the small guys 20 years ago. It didn't work then either. My advice: Buy from a home town dealership. Only darken the door of a mega dealer if you happen to break down on vacation.
