It's still the same cost. Holdback is a % of sticker. No, they don't get volume discounts. Big dealers usually have higher overhead including a huge budget for advertising and big extravagant buildings. They are likely in an area where real estate is a premium. It's how dealers always boast "$10,000 low price guarantee". They know another dealer can't beat their price or they'll be loosing money. I worked in a smaller dealership and a mega dealership for 20 yrs. total. Ford tried moving to the large dealerships and fazing out the small guys 20 years ago. It didn't work then either. My advice: Buy from a home town dealership. Only darken the door of a mega dealer if you happen to break down on vacation.
I've never found a mega dealer I could trust any further than I could throw them.Dealers sometimes get volume bonuses from the manufacturer (dealer cash) for moving X number of units and large dealers have more pre owned car inventory to move which makes up 25% of a dealers margin.
Large volume dealers work on velocity and volume over margin. I’ve never found a small town dealer more aggressive than a mega dealer.

Also, the dealer cash you speak of is just to make up for all the interest they've had to pay for those old units.
you don’t need to throw them. You just need to get the vehicle for the lowest price possible. You don’t even need to see the dealer again once you buy the vehicle.
The dealer you choose for service won't bend over backwards for you if you bought it elsewhere, so that can be a slippery slope...... I shop hard and then offer it to my local dealer because thats where I want the service done and they've matched all the prices!
Lol not true I have two dealers different owners 10 miles apart from each other. They compete hard against each other for service customers. The one I bought from simply assumed I would service my vehicle with them and even booked my first appointment without my input. I called asked what this was about what they charged for a oil change. It was high. I called the dealer down the street it was very competitive same oil same everything. Only problem for them I dothis is true. Except the local guys told me to get lost with that. Refused to match flood on warranty. Wanted about double.
told me to just buy their truck to “save the drive.” No drive, the other guys shipped it to my door. Still cheaper. And that cost those fellas a grand to ship. Still cheaper
