Android Auto not Muting Audio Source

I'd say this happens about 80% of the time. If I hit the talk button on the steering wheel to invoke Andoid Auto voice control while listening to the FM radio, it momentarily lowers the radio volume but then the volume returns to where it was, so while AA is listening for my voice commands, it's hearing the radio and can't respond. So I have to hit the power button on the radio first, then the talk button, use AA, then hit power on the radio again.

I'm not sure if that's an AA issue, my phone issue, Sync 3 issue, or other. In my previous car (2016 Kia Sorento) I had this problem maybe 5-10% of the time.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 for what it's worth.

Found this. Just disabled developer mode to see if that helps.

In case anyone hasn't been able to sleep at night since June 7, I still have this problem pretty much 100% of the time. Apple Car Play does not have this problem. I gave up, hoping that maybe the new version of Android Auto would fix things, but, it didn't. Am I the only one?

I am a CarPlay user but I also use Waze (a Googe (aka Android) product) within CarPlay. When I am in Waze and tap on the microphone in the upper right-hand corner to dictate a destination address, it does this exact same thing...the audio will mute for a moment and I get the ding to begin speaking, but then as I am speaking, the radio audio comes back in while I am trying to talk. If I try it a few more times it will eventually works as it is supposed to, but very rarely does it work on the first shot.

I just tell this story to commiserate with you...the only google/android product I use on my system has the same problem you are having.
