hey just about to do a change out on a 2007 Expedition.

Any hints or tips? Or do I just go at it?

Installing new ones, be sure you have them set to proper gap and be gentle. If you cross thread, you’re screwed

Do you have the tool for broken plugs? Use a torque wrench to tighten them down. The spec is in in/lbs. Blow the holes out with compressed air. Give yourself plenty of time.

Get the Lisle tool! When I did the plugs on my 05, I did a warm soak seafoam treatment immediately prior to removing the plugs. I only broke 1 plug! Also if I remember, there is a special 9/16 plug socket with a shorty extension welded on. That helped a lot as well.

The Lisle tool is a must have as a just in case. I changed mine for the first time at 110 and everyone recommended removing by hand but I decided to use a 1/4" impact to break torque. Normally I wouldn't do this but I was hoping the quick shock of the impact would break them free without snapping. It worked for me and I was able to remove all 8 without issue and returned the lisle tool I bought. I am in no way telling you to use an impact but just saying it worked for me. I had the lisle tool on hand so if they snapped with hand torque or impact it wouldn't have mattered to me.

I would recommended replacing all of your coils while your removing them.

Just a follow up question, I believe I have a 2 valve 5.4, It’s a 2007 with the 6 speed transmission. However my mechanic told me that it was the 2 valve.

Are the spark plugs still going to be a issue? Also how can I double check to see if it’s a 2 valve?

The 2 valve's last year in the Expedition was 2004. Your 07 should be the 3V

Ok that’s interesting, so the only way it would be a 2 valve is if it’s had a new engine at some point in its past life.

Is there any way to visually verify which it is?

The 3v says "5.4L 3V Triton" right across the top center of the motor. The air filter is top front and center.

Ok mine definitely doesn’t say 3v on it

Some years did not. Does it have silver/grey looking valve covers or black? It'd be pretty ridiculous to retrofit a 2v motor into an 07...

The 5.4 Triton doesn't say that in the expedition, let me find the pic of my engine for you

Thanks, my 05 did have that cross the filter box. I wasn't sure what year they stopped...
