Anyone know what this vacuum component is?

Yep. The leaky component will hold sufficient vacuum at idle to keep the recirc door closed, but not under increased "vacuum demand". Looking up under the dash around the air box this evening.

I had a similar problem and found the vacuum hose on the heater hose valve had come off.
