Can it be done? of course, anything "can be done" but is it a reasonable mod?

I love my 2001 Expedition. We tow a big trailer and I have no interest in trading in the truck.

But apparently that transmission in the later F150's would greatly improve towing performance so it's something I might consider a couple years down the road.

thanks

You had me excited for a minute that htat answer "plug and play" but I meant the six speed automatic found in the 2009 + Expeditions.

It's about trailer towing.

But that six speed manual looks pretty cool too.

thanks

Can it be done? Sure, the best way is to have a donor truck. You'll need to swap the pcm, harness, cluster (possibly harness here also). Not that hard to do, just very time consuming. Easiest and less costly would be to build your trans.

Looking at the cost vs performance gain - it would have a very long ROI to justify the swap.

If I was really serious about upgrading for towing I'd swap in a V10 with a built trans. or if money was not an issue: 5.9 Cummins with 9 or 10 speed Eaton/Fuller.

What are you pulling?

NINE MILE FALLS
could it be done of course... is it practical and cost effective i cant see how it would be.. will it tow better yes and you would most likely see some mileage improvment...

sounds like your looking for more grunt while towing???

open up the intake and exhaust and get a good tuner will really wake it up and make a big difference while towing...

a 5 speed may be a better swap idea if your stuck on the plan
