What started out just looking to add a trans temp gauge has drifted into looking at different programmers. I wasn't too knowledgable on them and was wondering if anyone here is running one and what are your thoughts?

I love mine, but it depends really how much you want to spend. I lucked out when I found my CS, bought the whole setup for 250+ from craigslist... It has multiple performance tunes, that can be switched on the fly. has a 2.5 screen, I can have 8 options running at once.. a big increase in mpg, internet rdy..
Now there are simpler models and cheaper to, price between 300 to 600 depending what you are wanting it to do

Just by switching to an already pre programmed setting you can see increase in MPG's? Can you monitor your Trans temp? Thats what I was originally looking for when I started looking at gauges. I would hate to get the edge and then have to still buy and mount a trans temp gauge

I like my Edge , and you can monitor Trans Temp.

Do any of the handheld units allow for more custom tuning on a first gen 5.4? At minimum I'm hoping to find a unit that allows for DTCs to be turned off (not just checked and reset). Even more ideally would be adjustable fuel/timing tables and etc.
I found quarterhorse but it looks like most of the support is around the Mustang and it's iffy if there are any definitions for an expy.

How about the Superchips Max Micro? There is a guy on Craigslist here in Phoenix selling one for like $145.00. Here is a link to the superchip website of the programmer he's selling. I'm thinking of picking it up:

Do you think it's worth buying for $145.00? I just can't afford the Edge CTS programmer. Let me know and maybe ill go pick it up and tell you guys if I notice a change. Super chips seems like a good company right?

They definately have a name but I am not familiar with their products, google some reviews on them

Edge Evo/HT in my 4.6. Its great! Just cleared my check engine light with it yesterday, running the 87 Octane setting on it and Ive used it three times in the last week to pull work trailers around with. Love it. Best upgrade yet

I've got a 4.6, is there a noticeable difference in mpg and power?
My dad has a 5.4 and he stomps me in mpg, it takes me $30 to drive to tampa from where I live and only $20 for for his 5.4 to do the same.
I'm not so worried about power but more towards mpg.

My wife has an evo edge and I have superchips I my truck. I LOVE the options of the edge but feel like I got way more out of the superchip the the edge. I can't express how sick the options of the edge tuner are though. All depends on what you plan on doing. We haul a camper and utility trailer with the expedition so the temp gauges are amazing and the mileage monitor is great too.

The kind of stuff you're wanting to do will require tuning software like Quarterhorse or Pro Racer Package. I've been using PRP for a few years and I really like it.

I have an Edge CS and love it..paid 400.00 for it but it has saved that 10 times in fuel economy..not to mention it really woke my 5.4 up and made it pretty quick. Talk to Mark Haywood at Edge products and make sure you tell him your a member here and I sent you...they give us members special prices. you can also monitor may other different items with this as well...i have mine set up to read 8 different areas.
