Automatic Headlights turn off

My wife was driving her 04 Exp and the headlights and all interior lights went off. She turned switch from auto to on then back to auto and they came back on. This happened twice last week. Any ideas?

when she turned to the on position did the headlights come on??

sounds as if your switch may be acting up

Yes they did.
