Blacked out

finally got around to blacking out my wheels with Plastidip. I have to say, it makes my truck look a lot better. next project will be blacking out the wheel well trim & bumpers. but for now i'm happy w/ the new look.

Looks great, and awesome product. I just did mine yesterday. I know a few people on here that have done the trim in all black. I know I did my bumpers and mirrors in white and turned out just as good. Will be looking forward to seeing future projects.

hey thanks for the idea of doing the side mirrors. just out of curiousity, how many coats & cans did you use on your bumpers? i also blacked out my trailer hitch as it was discolored.

I blacked out my mirror caps. I only put 2-3 coats on them. For my bumpers it took me about a can and a half with 2-3 coats. Basically I just did enough to get the black to cover evenly. I did not add more after that. (I know you weren't asking me originally but I figured I'd put in my .02 haha)

Hey F&P, thanks for your $.02, i currently have 3 coats on my wheel & was thinking about addin' at least another coat or 2 just to help w/ the durability. i know 1 thing, Plastidip is a hot product, b/c i went to 2 different Lowe's up here & both out of stock, so i went to Home Depot & bought the last 3 cans they had.

Yeah thats a good idea. I have one back wheel that I will need to redo because it began to peel around the lug nuts. Still for the cost of the investment it is worth redoing now and then.

Looks fine to me. The pictures are taken on a pretty sunny day.

i used the cans, 3 to be exact. i have another can that i plan on using. i would have used it that day, but i was pressed for time.

To tell you the truth I originally thought you did the body in the dark picture... I see you did the rims... looks great... They will give you about 6 months and then peel and redo... with those old rims it might be wise to just spray paint them black and wet sand any orange peel... they look great though... I did the same thing with mine and loved it...

I just did mine this past weekend in black and put about 5-6 coats on them. It took about 4 cans to do them all. Made sure I gave it about 6-10 minutes between coats and made sure it was warm outside when I did it. I also scrubbed them down with wheel cleaner as best I could before hand and sprayed the inside of the rims on the back with high temp black caliper paint to make it a finished look. I should have the pics posted up to check out.

when i orinally planned on doing this i washed my wheels to get the brake dust, dirt & grime off, but of course something came up, so i ended up doing them a week later. worked out better for me b/c it was good & HOT when i did 'em last week, so it didn't take long to dry & reapply the next coat.

Only, i checked out your picks the other day & i like the F-150 wheel Plastidip look! i know the next time when i do it, i will make sure i clean the wheels a little better & may do the high temp coat on the back as well. Good Look!

i'm not sure, but i guess i will find out this winter & they salt the HELL out of the roads here. i think i have read somewhere on here that it does. i'm assumin' the more coats you have, the better...@ least that's my theory!
