Boot to Spark Plug Connection

I picked up new coil boots and new spark plugs for my 2000 expedition 5.4
I was curious about the fit of the boot spring connectors to the spark plug.
I noticed that the spring does not connect to the spark plug tight at all. its almost like connection is relied upon the rubber boot's grip on the spark plug itself to keep the spring in place on the end of the plug. Is this how these are supposed to be?

Use plenty of dielectric grease to coat the inside of the boot. Tightening the 7mm screw that attaches the COP to the manifold secures the spring connection to the spark plug.
