I'm looking to buy hids for my 2012 expedition limited I'm on a budget at the moment $350 and less I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and buy a bi xenon hi/low hid kit for headlights and a fog light kit or go ahead and buy a retrofit headlight kit with hids from trs and no fogs, I was thinking of just buying the morimoto elite 6000k 55 watt hids for headlights And Fog lights for now and then get the projectors later? Would I be fine running these hids in the stock reflector housing for now thanks

I ran my HIDs in stock housings with no problems. I did have to do some minor re-aiming but that was it.

I also had projectors on the truck and hated the way they looked and performed.

Yea I think ill just run hids first then add projectors later on but I want to run 55watt ballast for heads and fogs I'm sure it will be bright, also the headlights have a factory cap so I'm guessing it won't be to bad temporary did u have to adjust headlights down

35w will be bright...illuminates everything...you'd be surprised...and I've driven in some remote places and saw everything fine...adjusting beams is personal preference...I didn't...in fact I aimed up

I tried HIDs in my stock housings and it looked like complete shit, light output was awful and the oncoming traffic was blinded. No matter how they were adjusted it sucked. Either go projector or leave the ricer light look to the honda civics and toyota corollas.

There are a few on here that "claim" their headlights look just as good as a projector in a reflector housing and I've yet to see anything better than stock other than looking "blue" and different.

For 150 more you can send your lights in and get them retrofitted and sent back to you, maybe take your 350 budget save another 150$ and get them retrofitted IMO. I like hids and have had them in my silverado which handled them well. But some of my buddy's vehicles shoot the light a mag light when you take the lens off.

Check out the mini d2s 3.0. It's a square projector which I think looks better with these vehicles.

Who would reteofit the lights for $500? Also yea I thought about just running the mini d2s vs the fxr 3.0 I think I could handle doing it myself I think the mini would be a easier install? Anyone do a mini retrofit on here on 2007-2014 model heads?

I did the Mini H1 retrofit and it was easy. The hardest part was removing all the factory glue and resealing the lights. Order the resealing glue roll from TRS, that will make the job much easier.

I have 5000k headlights and 4300k fog lights, both in factory housings. With the lights off, they look completely OEM. With the lights on, they look like they came from the factory that way. They are VERY bright, but not in a way that blinds anyone. No one EVER flashes their lights at me thinking I have my brights on. It was an easy conversion. The ONLY downside is that I keep my lights on Auto, and hear a studder in the electronics as they click on and power up. It is so minor that I am not worried about it.

I bought a Bi-Xenon kit (6K) from Ebay (Xentec brand) for $52. I also purchased a fog light kit (6K) for $32. I installed everything myself, and only took me about 1hr & 20 minutes because it was my first time working on a ford truck. HID kits are very inexpensive now a days, and honestly they are all made with very similar materials. Spending $350 on one kit is overboard, IMO.

As far as light output, I am obviously using my stock head lights and fog lights, and the improvement is very noticeable. The fog lights look amazing. The headlights do have a higher output than with original bulbs, but the light output is scattered, as opposed to the fog lights. I have not had time to play around with aiming the headlights, but i plan on doing this very soon. If this doesn't improve the light output, then i will consider doing a retrofit myself with some good halogens. The headlights don't look bad, but they could be better.

If i were you, i would refrain from getting the 55w bulbs and just go with the 35w conversion. The 55w will only shine brighter for a short period of time (a couple of months, at most), then the output will diminish just a tad lower than the 35w bulb. Also the 55w kit is more prone to failure, due to the higher power draw. Google search this if you like. Just my 2 cents.

I had installed a bi-xenon kit on the headlights and a kit on the fogs. They were much brighter, and loved the look with 5k bulbs. The fogs make the biggest improvement, however I noticed some damage to my fog lights. They were brand new and the plastic lense had a small crack and they started getting a little foggy on the inside. When ever I have my headlights on, I have the fogs on so not sure about the heat. Read somewhere that they were not meant to be on all the time.

I'm reviving a sort of old thread, but I have a 2011 that I want to replace the headlights completely.
I want to use the Anzo units that use separate H1 filaments for low and high.
I'll stick with a Halogen H1 in the High beams, but I want to do H1 HIDs (5000K) in the Low beam projectors. Is there a prebuilt "Relay Harness" that will allow me to keep the low beams on when the Highs come on? I've been over to DDM Tuning but I can't find a relay harness that will do what I want.

you can put the HIDs in them and be fine...no harness so they will have to be wired they way in the headlight to do what u want...mine are wired that way due to the person who retrofitted my headlights wired them that way...you wont need high beam cuz HIDs are birghter and ur in the right range for the brightest output...6K is the highest anyone should go and anything past that changes color of light and GREATLY deminishes output...

No, they will not work ok, the Projectors in those are utter garbage. The Hids will not last long in it at all. Do not bother with these housings unless you are ready to retrofit them. Mine are retrofitted with dual projectors. Real Bi-xenon projectors. They are decent housings, but not if you plan to drop in H1 hids and call it a day.

OK. This is really good to know. Have you heard anything about the Spyder housings at carid.com? Are the projectors in those any good?

I don't need the bi-xenon projectors since the housings have a highbeam bulb as well.

Tell me about retrofitting. Did you have to send out the lights or was it just swapping in different components into the Anzos?

they are usually all made by eagle eyes, which is not that great. I used the ones i have now because i wanted to retrofit it for dual bi-xenons on each side. I do not recommend the use of the projectors they have with HIDS. they are very poorly made.

For my lights i sent them out. I've retrofitted before, and did not have the time to do it this time around. Retrofiting is a very tedious process that a lot of people skip, either due to time involvement or money. But it gets you the best useable light without glare or blinding others. All my light is under the cutoff line which is where i want it to be, otherwise it'll seem like highbeams ON all the time.
