I don't believe the 2016 Expedition is equipped with a cabin air filter as I have been unable to find a reference anywhere to purchase a replacement or a how-to on replacing it. I'd just like to know if anyone has first-hand knowledge that there is or is not one on that model so my wife will quit bugging me about changing it. She doesn't believe it could possibly not have one!

So I've never had a vehicle that didn't have a cabin air filter until I bought my 07 expy. So how does it filter? Can anyone explain it to me?

It doesn't. Ford did not have a filter on the 3rd Gen Expedition. They added it in the 4th Gen(2018+).

4th Gens have cabin filters. Earlier Gens do not. Maybe one of Ford's marketing plans to get you into a new vehicle once your evaporator rots out from debris corrosion ...

People used to drive with open windows too. Filtering air wasn't a thought in the old days. I guess the 3rd Generation was late catching up with the new fad. And Ham's right, the evaporator gets covered in mung. Just how they used to do it.

As the air enters the vehicle through the vent(s) located at the bottom edge of the windshield it is sent through the A/C system to cool off the cabin. With a filtered system, that same air will encounter a filter that’s located above/ before the blower fan. Once it passes through the filter it continues as normal through the system until it blows out of the vents at you. Only now, it’s cleaner air…

Part of the issue is most people will never check or change the filter, eventually it'll be clogged and smell really bad. GMC had filters in the 07 1500's,and actually stopped putting them in by 09 due to customers complaining about the AC not working and it having a bad smell. Just look at the amount of people with oil gelling issue on the 5.4's, and you want to add another maintenance item?

Interesting thread. My dealer just wanted to charge me $79.97 for "Cabin Air Filter Replacement" for my 2016. Glad I declined.

Nor is there one in my 2015 - but I've had two different dealerships try and charge me for replacing one.

Due to work I spent about 6 days in the desert. There were several dust storms that blew dusty air into the windshield vents. Subsequently, when the vent fan or AC is blowing I now have dusty air blowing into the cabin and coating the dash and the glare shield and other bits and pieces. I've tried squirting water down into the vents hoping to flush out the dust but it persists. Anyone have a good method for purging the dust? It's not as bad as when it first started, but I want to get rid of it! Thanks!!

I have had them try to sell me one on my 2016 a couple times saying that my cabil filter is really dirty and I just tell them if you can show me where it is, I will buy one from you.
