I just bought my 98 EXPED. The key I was given only works the ignition and the passenger door.

Is there a number on the driver's door that I can take to the dealer to have a key made for it? I never thought to check if the darn key worked in the door.

My key doesn't work in the hatch lock either. It goes in but won't turn.

Yes you can go to the dealer and get a key made. When I did it with my cavalier all i needed to give them was the V.I.N and proof of ownership and they made me up some keys and it's the same at Ford. When you get the keys made make sure when you get the keys made that you check to make sure that it works in every lock.

That's part of the problem. My door appears to be from a Junk Yard, so I don't have the VIN for it. Unless it's somewhere on the door or lock.

It'd probably be better to change the door lock and hatch lock to work with the key. That can be done, right (is it called rekeying?) That way you wouldn't have to carry two seperate keys with you.

Driver side of the windshield, bottom right.... should be there.

YES, the VIN for the truck is under the windshield, HOWEVER, the door is not the original door. It came from another truck with another VIN, that I don't have.

I checked last night, they transferred the door sticker to the new door, so that is a bust.

Is re-keying something a locksmith can do? Or is that a dealer thing as well?

The dealer does it. They change the numbers in the lock to match the key, I did before for a Taurus's ignition so I dont know for sure that they would do it for door's and trunks but the odds are good that they do.

I was quoted a price of $50 for the lock cylinder, plus labor to build it to match my key and install it.

I also did the key trick and found out that it does have factory Keyless, just no remote. So I picked up a remote from eBay. As long as it works, I'll skip the re-keying for now.
