i got that but why call em exploders... do they have a tendency to explode?
the best selling SUV of all time, and at one time the most popular vehicle in the world

I am not really sure. The name may have started due to the past firestone tire issues (roll overs) due to blow outs.

No, they're called exploders because they have a bad reputation (not sure how founded it is but the reputation is out there) for blowing up when rear ended hard enough. I'm not even really sure which years are in question.
