Is it me, or am I missing something? Daytime, unless the sun is hitting it, I can't see my fuel gage. It is tucked down in the lower right corner of the dash. Actually, it is difficult to see any of the gages, other than the speedo and tach. I'd expect better. This is on a 2014 KR. Please don't tell me I have to drive with lights on all the time.

Is the 14 different then the earlier versions? I don't have any problems seeing mine. But then I'm short and might be at the right angle. My message center is impossible to see in direct sun light though.

you might need to go back to the dealer and have them fix, still under warranty for everything

I have the 2011 XLT EL - no problem seeing the gauges at all at any time. However, the digital display is a different animal - when the sun hits that, forget it. I suppose that since Ford addd the function to turn that part of the display off, they don't think it's that important.

I just bought a 2013, I don't know if they changed anything in 2014, but I can't image anyone having issues seeing the gas gauge if they haven't. The message center in direct sunlight is another story lol.

I just got a 2013 Limited and it is very hard to read the gauges unless the lights are on. I guess they designed it at night.

It is not only the fuel gauge all of them are tough to see. The tach and speedo are ok. I could very easily be cooking coolant if I had to depend on the temp gauge.
I'm going to have to visit the dealer if I can pry my wife out of it.

Went to the dealer and they said it was tough to see, but it is what it is. Why they didn't use white like the speedo and tach but decided on black for the other four is beyond me.
I suppose I could go with a pod on the pillar, but at over 50K for this thing, they should make them visible

Thats really strange, I have never had a problem reading any of those readouts unless its night with the lights off or the dash lights turned down.

i'll add my 2 cents-

just picked up a new to me 2010 eb. drove it 800 miles home from pa. in daylight, the fuel guage is very difficult to see easily. tucked lower left, black background, sun shining-tough. if it had been put in the upper quadrant it would have been easier to see quickly. i find i have to remove my sunglasses and really look closely (all the while driving! can you say distracted!!) in order to see it. very poor design/location for such an important instrument.

I agree with the comments. Wouldn't it have been better to put the fuel and temp gauges where the volts and oil pressure are located?

The 2006-2010 Explorers had a similar issue with the fuel gauge tucked in the lower left corner. Not one of Ford's better ideas.

From the pix of the new 2015 navigator, perhaps we'll see MFT and the extra gauges that come with that soon.

Talked to Fords regional person a few days ago on the phone. They say that they will get into it and I should hear back from them today. Dealer service manager called last night to say he spoke with higher ups and told them it was a issue but had no fix available at the dealer level. Seems some are fine others horrible.
My thing is why make the speedo and tach with white background with black numerals and all others a black background?

The regional manager called today. The deal is that even though they know that some owners are having a problem with seeing the gages, Ford won't do anything about it until a sufficient number of complaints are received. So here's the number. If you are so inclined, please give them a call. All they have to do is flash a module so that the gage lights come on with the ignition.
