Can't shift out of park

I have a 97 Expedition, Eddie Bauer. I have had no issues with this vehicle. Now, with the engine running, foot on the brake, I cannot shift out of park. I tried yesterday morning and last night. Any ideas?

turn the truck off, turn your ignition up once from entering the key and put the truck in neutral, then start the truck...-- if it still wont go out of park, are your brake lights coming on when you push the brake..--it is probably the brake solenoid that tells the truck the brake is on so it can shift out of park when its running. the switch is near the top of the brake pedal under the dash, its a ***** to get to but check it out. the wires might be loose on it, ive seen the problem before.

--also, check under the truck on the transmission linkage make sure there is no mud on it, i had that problem!

If that's not it, I had to replace the shifter cable on mine. The linkage got stuck and brought it to a shop because I couldn't get the shifter back into park from drive. It would go into drive back to N then into R but wouldn't go to P. This would not allow me to shut off the key. Shop was able to replace cable and linkage and shifts nice and smooth now. Was only like $100 to fix. I thought it was going to be $500.

Check your fuses that associated with the BSI. I have a 2003 EB and the same thing happened to me. Unfortunately, I could not determine what was causing the fuse to keep blowing. I gave up and brought it the the mechanic and it miraculously stop blowing. We are dumbfounded.
