You definitely are a Prius type of guy.

Haha! Have you even driven a Prius?

If I had the need for a 3rd Car, it would probably be Electric or Hybrid, cause my commute is pretty short now. Would make sense.

Thanks for showing me the light!

Bash the 3.5 all you want, I do find this very entertaining. Just remember all the 3.5 negative posts are from a guy who has a 2000 5.4. Nuff said right there. The rest of us have first hand knowledge on the 3.5. I will say I "was" a hard core V8 guy, until I bought the '16. It is almost as much fun as my '85 GT. And as for DFI, my twin Merc Optimax outboards are DFI as is all our diesel equipment & trucks. Bottom line I would put money on my '16 with the 3.5 against any 5.4 in a race.

Of course I went to order it on amazon and it was unavailable until the 7th. I think it was a video by the 5 star tuning guys? Can't remember

Cool stuff. Trust me I have a long list of vehicles and equipment to list as well. My kids are the family's 3rd generation racers. We build engines and repair all our own vehicles and equipment, nothing farmed out. The point is you shouldn't be commenting on a forum that you don't have first hand knowledge on, only speculation. If you were a present or past owner of an EB then your comments are welcome. Otherwise please stay on the sidelines and observe.

You say your shit last, does that mean you bought all those new? I've only purchase 2 new vehicles in my life, and one new quad.

If you look around, you can find people who swear by and curse any auto manufacturer or motor. Hell, there are people that had horrible experiences with Toyota and Honda who will never purchase one again.

Coming from a 6.0L V8 LQ4 in a 2002 Escalade sure, I would have liked a V8 option in my 2016 Expy. But the Ecoboost 3.5L puts out 60 more horses! No matter how you slice it, that's pretty darn impressive. And in comparison...the EB MOVES. :burnout:

My LQ4 was it's own animal...biggest headache was the dreaded frozen bolts on the exhaust manifold. Very common problem on GM V8s and cost way too much money to resolve.

Point is, there's no such thing as a perfect engine. Early EBs have some minor carbon issues, so what. You maintain your vehicles the best you can and if you gotta fix something, you fix it. Google away and you'll find EBs with 300k on the clock with 0 issues and some people that blew them up at 15k miles.

I do miss the exhaust on that Escalade, especially at idle. Made that sexy blub blub blub like old school cat-free cars. But in exchange, I got the cool sound of a turbo spool. Truth is, in traffic, both engines get 12mpg :Big Laugh:

*Escalade was a second car, still had my Escape...can't break the Ford for life chain. 1990 Escort LX, 1998 Taurus SE, 2002 Taurus SEL, 2001 Escape XLT (winter), 2010 Fusion SEL (summer), 2010 Escape Limited, 2016 Expedition Platinum.

No engine is perfect. True. But I speak from personal experience w several EB’s and a 5.0 that suffers from cylinder distortion, sounds like a diesel when you first start it and if you stomp it.

3 buddies have 3.5 EB. All 3 have VVT issues. All 3 have cold start misfire.

I drive from Illinois to Florida 6-7x year. I split between driving my truck or renting a Ford. I’ve had F150 EB 3.5 and Ex EL 3.5 EB on several occasions. I like testing vehicles long and hard when I’m considering a purchase.

There is no doubt the 3.5 accelerates well. The 5.0 checks off the v8 crowds. But both have significant inherent design flaws. I wouldn’t buy one.

My 5.4 has over 200k and is very reliable. No issues besides an alternator, battery, and tuneup only twice in 200k miles.

There’s are reason Ford designers went old school on the 7.3 gasser.

OH, If I had know you had 3 buddies with a EB, and rented a few I would have believed you...That makes all the difference in the world. [emoji849]

All, please listen to Machete. He is definitely an expert on all things EB. Please immediately go trade in your Expeditions on something...Not sure what, since all the large SUV offerings in the US have DI, and some form of VVT. I am sure he will be along to tell us which to choose.

He is another update on total oil ounces caught in the last 17,500 mi. It’s just under 16 oz. and not a drop of water. My can would just hold that total amount if I would have let it go that long without draining it. It’s a super simple procedure to drain it also. I cut the wheels to the left, hang a cup under the drain hose behind the passenger side front tire in the wheel well, pop the hood and turn the 1/4 turn petcock on the bottom of the can.E9E4DB9C-9424-4DCA-ABE3-A35AAA6CA5D7.jpeg4D704E41-4A68-4FFE-B280-4FD6991645F6.jpeg

Well this thread has been entertaining, I’ll give it that :D.

That’s what I am here for!

Honestly, I could not do it without Machete. His ramblings of the old days, and how all motors were perfect back 20+ years ago. It really makes it easy for me to continue to entertain!

Sadly, No Prius here. FYI, the Prius’s gas Motor is DI, and has VVT, so according to you I shouldn’t buy it based on that criteria.
