CCD at 82000 miles....

How do you decide your CCD shocks are shot ? What sorts of mileage have you CCD owners gone before replacement ?

I'm noticing a distinct amount of pogoing after a low speed speed bump, especially the back end bouncing up/down a couple times before settling out. I'm at 82000 miles on my 2019 Expedition 4x4 Limited Stealth short wheelbase. Its done a fair amount of towing since I got it, but my trailer is only 4500-5000 lbs. Its also done a lot of nasty roads since I've had it, but thats just the last 20K miles.

I'm planning on getting new CCD shocks and having an indie install them. From my VIN, I get

My Platinum has done the same pogoing for thousands of miles in normal or eco mode. If I change to sport mode everything tightens up.
Unfortunately, what you call the pogoing and I call the boat effect is normal on the Expeditions. They have a very soft ride in normal and eco.
To answer your question on when, shift to sport mode and see if it drives tight. I am at 86,000 miles and have no issues.

I have load leveling suspension and just change my 4 corners at around 170k. I tried the bounce test, but I didn't see extra bounces when I pushed on the corners. I did feel a porpoise sensation and my dash cam started thinking I was having accidents are bumpy roads. I haven't had the issues since. My suggestion is that if you think something feels "off", you are likely correct and should fix/replace it.

CCD is a totally different beast. It is normal for a boat, porpoise, pogo, or whatever someone calls it feel, in normal or eco mode.
Some people get annoyed, like my wife. Others like me love it. It's like riding on air.

I picked up a rattle type sound last fall, had like 40k miles then. I keep telling the dealer about it, they can’t seem to figure it out. One guess was sway bar bushings, no dice. It’s at low speeds, say in my neighborhood and I hit a tiny bump and can hear and sometimes feel something that keeps that enters from the bump hit going. Best way I can explain it.

After having several different mechanics give it a go, not finding anything g loose under there, not “feeling” it on drives, and one pick up and delivery from the former service manager of like 30 years, I give up. I believe the struts are weak, but good luck getting them to agree to cover it.

It doesn’t drive any different. I’m more concerned this is just an early warngi sign and the ccd struts will totally fail, of course out of my extended ford warranty.

My 19 platinum has a similar noise as you describe. Dealer can’t find it either. Very light ball joint or loose shock tower bolt rattle at low speed for the first few minutes of driving.

Springs mine give a tinny chatter on one specific street with unique cracks in the pavement. My Subaru did it also. Friend’s Porsche does it on the same street.

Where is it coming from? Could be waste gates if in front. They tend to rattle when cold, then get quieter.

That’s what I was saying, nothing can be found loose and it’s from upfront, I pinpoint it at driver side. It’s a dull subtle rattle.

Open the hood, start the vehicle and listen. could be turbo waste gate. They do quiet down after heating up.

As I said, it’s only over bumps. Truck sounds fine sitting still.
