Any tricks to change cyl. 4 & 8 (I think) along the firewall. How do you get at them and I heard something about the threads in the heads are not as long as the other cylinders. Any help? 1999 Eddie Bauer 5.4
yep use a socket, swivels, extensions and some choice words always help take your time and if needed move the fuel rail tie back the hoses etc to make room
Update your signature line with year model and engine information. This can be done in the USER CP section as this information helps others give you replies specific to your vehicle.
I've always removed the fuel rails and tied them out of theway, never had a space issue. Just rremember if you do remove them to watch out for the o rings.
just did mine on my 4.6 not sure how much harder it is on the 5.4 but I removed the fuse block on the pass side which gave a little more room. I also laid on top of the engine compartment so that I could reach all the way back there. I am 6'4 but with my 34" tires I couldn't get my arms all the way back there from the ground. A helper is also very useful they can help hold things out of the way.
