Hello,

I drive a expedition builds 2001 4,6 2WD drive.
I like to switch my spark plugs.
What is the easiest way to change it.
The last spark plugs are hard to change.
A friend told me, maybe dismantle the fire plate.

cheers

Dirk

Sadly - there is no easy way. You probably have to take off the fuel rails to get access. I replaced mine at the same time I swapped out my intake manifold due to a leak at the water crossover. But be careful as cranking on those plugs as they can cause you a worse headache if the threads strip a bit. I had 2 plugs blow out on my 01 5.4 after pulling out the plugs.

Their are many videos online that explain removal/replacement of first edition spark plugs. It's very critical due to a lack of enough threads in cylinder heads, to use a torque wrench on installation. They need to be torqued around 16-19 ft lbs, no more, no less. Read up on it, and then decide if it's a job you want to tackle.

I can't print them from my phone, I'm sure one of the other members will post a link for you. Just Google removal of 97-02 expedition/f150 spark plugs. Usually at least 3 or more videos pops up.

When I googled how to remove spark plugs 97-02 about 6 videos popped up. The front four on both sides aren't overly tough, it's the rears that require patience, and know how. Your going to need a 7 mm flex 1/4 inch drive socket, and a 5/8 sparkplug socket preferably with a built in extension. A retracting magnet is a good idea as well. I have 3 in my tool box, never know when you'll drop a bolt or spark plug. We here on the forum favor Ford/motorcraft replacement plugs, just seem to work better.

Didn't even know they made that. Where did you get the socket?
