Well i just joined and did a bit of searching and didnt get the answers i was looking for. here is the problem.

About 3 months ago i got a "Check Charging System" and the local AutoZone guys said that it was a bad alternator. SO... i replaced it. and like a pro (sarcasm) i hooked it up, not reading any instructions (not my first rodeo) and i didnt follow the "Start Up Instructions"

now it has been 3 months and the error message and battery light comes on, YET the battery is between 13.7 and 14.1 volts at idle. even under a load, like AC, Brights, Blinkers, Loud Stereo and rolling windows up or down and it does not change.

i read on a Mustang forum that it could be that the parts store gave me the wrong amperage alternator (130 rather than 110)

Any help or suggestions?

Thank You

Take the part number and search it up, and see what specs you get.

Hey 60Degree, I have the same damn problem with my 2004 Expedition. I replaced my alternator with one from AutoZone also! The light has been on for months. I checked it with a voltmeter and its working fine but the stupid light and "Check Charging System" keep coming on. I see you are from Aurora also, if you are from Illinois did you happen to get it at the Galena Ave. location? I found this on another website http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1yq4b-2004-ford-expedition-5-4l-check-charging-system-came-on-alternator I guess the voltage regulator in these rebuilds may be bad, I am going to take this alternator off and exchange it for another one, I will let you know if that solves the problem.

i had this type of problem with my old silverado. just cuz its "new" doesnt mean it works. you could have gotten a bad alternator. i would just take it back and get a new one.

Well, I took it out and exchanged it for another one. Works fine now, no more "Check Charging System" and battery light. Good thing I did it too because I noticed a tear in my serpentine belt and replaced that too.
