that's right, there are a very small number of things that can make it not work,
1 its not a lighter, it's a power outlet
2 the fuse is bad
3 one of the two wires that plug into the back of the "lighter" are not plugged in somewhere in the line. I would start at the back of the lighter and make sure both wires are secured not only to the lighter, but also crimped securely and not arcing.
if everything seems to check out then visit your local auto parts store, they can furnish you with a replacment hotstick.
