3000 miles on the clock and a prevalent clunk surfaced a couple of days ago. I hear and feel it (in the pedals and on the seat) every time that I either accelerate or decelerate.

In addition, I get a obvious clunk when I shift from park to drive or drive to reverse. The sound is pretty close to what one would hear if they have drive-line universals going out. I dismissed it at first thinking it was something rattling around in the back, but was pretty obvious while in the garage.

I guess this will be my first service visit.

Go over to fordtrucks.com and check out the expedition section. I was able to find some solutions with my 3rd generation from that site.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! The information was of great help.

Sounds like I have a good argument ahead of me based on the responses I've seen from service departments in those examples... i.e. "That is normal". I'm already prepped with a retort based on the fact that I'm no stranger to Ford truck-chassis based vehicles, and this is the first one in 15 years that I've ever had this happen with.

I will probably leave with egg on my face when they say "Fixed, we found some missing bolts/nuts from the factory and replaced them. Your EXP was built on a Monday". :jester:

Soldier777, thanks - I don't think it's anything major unless I start seeing springs, gears, and screws spewing out all over the ground. Incidentally, I did see that happen a few years ago for a fellow driving a ratted out Chevy S10.. something went fwap under his hood, and I watched his water pump / power steering pully roll out from under his truck, under mine, and continue it's merry way down the elevated street. That was a priceless moment. Actually the sound was more like someone taking a handfull of nuts, bolts, and screws - then throwing them into a metal bucket.

And come up with some kinda reason that it's not covered under warranty. "Uh you pressed the pedal on the right, Not supposed to do that." :supergay:

Sounds like U joints to me. Mine are due for replacement, and are on the list as long as I can find a buddy with a shop this weekend. The one thing that sucks about college is the lack of all of the room and tools to do everything easily myself.

Yeah, I've had enough of them go bad over the years to know what they feel/sound like, so no shocker here if it's something related. Since the ride is so new, I suspect though that something may have worked loose rather than it being something worn. That is, unless they are cutting corners and using parts from junk yards. :weld:

To be quite honest, mine went away on it's own after about two weeks and 300 miles. I had it into the dealer for an oil change, and one of the mechanics walked over and took a look underneath and did not see or feel anything wrong. I'm keeping an eye on it, or should I say an ear on it.

actually i herd that the 3rd gens have a problem with the trannys. i could be wrong though. its the tranny its self, but the computer thinking whats going on. since it only happens while your shifting it from one to the other it could be that problem.
