Hey I just want to let everyone know something i have recently found out and experienced myself. In my Trition 5.4 L F-150 I put on an aftermarket K & N Cold Air Intake. I love the sound and the slight power difference but one thing that is a factor that i came across. About every time i change the oil (3000miles) i have to clean the MAF(Mass Air Flow Sensor) because it gets gummed up with the oil from the K&N air filter. There are some down sides to this happened because it will cause drivability issues. If you recently put an aftermarket cold air intake that uses a oil based air filter, check to MAF sensor to see if it is covered in oil. The MAF sensor is a MAJOR part of your air/fuel ratio and performance of your engine. I am a firm believer that K&N air filters straighten out air flow and help air flow in your intake system. Post any comments with other experiences like mine that may help out people interested in CAI! Thanks!

It sounds like you may be using too much oil when you clean your filter. Try using less...I never have this issue.

Ditto. If you over oil, then the MAF will get gummed up. You don't have to use much oil at all.

I used to have this same problem with my k&n drop in. and my check engine light would come on saying i had a fuel lean problem. (idk why it would be lean but what ever) and then this last time i cleaned it i let the oil sit outside for like 20 mins. i kind of forgot about it. and now nothing. my parents arnt having problems with their drop ins in their toyotas. i think the problem is to much oil.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I agree with everyone, I've over-oiled the filter and had the sensor get gummed up. Just put a minimal amount of oil on the filter and let it sit for an hour or so. If there is a white spot, put a little more oil there and let it still for some more time. There should be just enough oil to turn the filter red without excess on the metal mesh.

Thanks for your experience. I think if I encountered the same, I will know how to do. I want to clean my MAF this coming weekend. :D
