Common replacements for the factory head?

I actually like the OEM and for a moment considered trying to find a 100% working unit in the salvage yard but am probably going with aftermarket. The original performance from the radio is fine as far as sound quality/level goes but the CD refuses to load so it's outa here, any suggestions starting on the looooow end budget wise?

Thanks for the reply, some of my questions as a noob are pretty basic but having trouble finding any tech (such as basic stuff) for learning the truck. Another question would be 'does my Ex have a subwoofer?' or does it just plain sound good.

I'm leaning towards it 'just plain sounds good'.

Go to the rear...on the left side is where the sub/amp will be...turn music on and if u hear a little bass then u have sub...there's a round speaker grill...can't mistake it for anything else in the rear...put your hand against it...if u feel anything...u have sub...u can also pop the top on the rear left panel by window...once u do u will be able to see the little amp on top of the sub immediately...sitting on a black thing...that's the sub box...

Ah well, no sub, but it sounds fine as it is so no biggie. Thought it might have an amp installed due to dual + battery cables leading from the battery. One goes immediately into the fusible link, the other dives into the passenger fender. I'll investigate that with my flashlight afterwhile.

Did however play with the controls on the rear of the console, seems to change the pattern/effect of the stereo. Small button to the left of the headphone icon changes the reading on the face of the radio from "SINGLE PLAY" to "DUAL PLAY".

"Dual Play" seems to sound okay and after selecting this mode the reading changes from "Dual Play" to "FM1 SHARED" for a few moments and then goes blank.

Dunno if any unicorns were harmed but seems to still sound very good.
